PIT Access Transit Bike

In 2025, we advanced affordable access to transit by strengthening the Emergency Transit Assistance Program through an expanded partnership with United Way, and by continuing to modernize fare collection and improve payment convenience for riders. Development of an Affordable Transit Pass Program also progressed and is scheduled for launch in 2027. We also continued improving access to transit through bus stop and exchange upgrades, helping make transit a more comfortable, reliable and attractive travel option for all riders. In our continued support of biking for transportation, we completed a few key connections in our active transportation network in 2025. These included the Bertram Multi-Use Overpass across Highway 97 and through Rowcliffe Park and the extension of the Abbott ATC from Cedar Avenue to Walnut Street, improving safety and connectivity for people walking and biking. With a planned 22 per cent increase in transit service hours over the next three years, we will focus investments on frequent transit routes that serve the highest volume of riders, while also enhancing high-performing local routes. We will implement the Affordable Transit Pass Program and continue our partnership with United Way to help make transit a more inclusive and accessible transportation choice. We will also continue building out our AAA bike network, including progressing the Abbott Street ATC toward a continuous connection to Boyce-Gyro Beach Park and delivering the Rutland Neighbourhood Bikeway to strengthen connections between the Houghton ATC and key destinations such as the Rutland Arena, Rutland Secondary School, and the YMCA. The TMP proposes a 65 per cent increase in transit service over the next 20 years. The new service will be focused on popular routes in the Core Area, where most low-income residents live. We anticipate the share of low-income residents close to frequent transit could rise from 50 per cent to 70 per cent by 2040.
