Canadian Recreational Water Quality Guidelines
Guidelines for Canadian Recreational Water Quality published by Health Canada in February 2024
These documents apply to natural recreational waters defined as untreated natural fresh, marine or estuarine bodies of water used for recreational purposes such as lakes, rivers, and human-made systems (for example, artificial lakes). They don't apply to constructed recreational water facilities like swimming pools or splash parks. The categories for recreational water activities are: primary contact activities (such as swimming, wading, windsurfing and waterskiing) and secondary contact activities (such as canoeing, boating or fishing). Primary and secondary contact activities involve different levels of exposure. Depending on the water quality, some areas may only be suitable for secondary contact activities.
Ces documents s'appliquent aux eaux naturelles utilisées à des fins récréatives, c'est-à-dire des étendues naturelles d'eaux douces, marines ou estuariennes utilisées à des fins récréatives, notamment les lacs, les rivières et les ouvrages (par exemple les lacs artificiels) qui sont remplis d'eaux naturelles non traitées. Ils ne s'appliquent pas aux installations aquatiques récréatives construites comme les piscines ou les parcs aquatiques. Les catégories d'activités pratiquées dans des eaux utilisées à des fins récréatives sont les activités de contact primaire (par exemple la natation, le pataugeage, la planche à voile ou le ski nautique) et les activités de contact secondaire (par exemple le canot, la navigation de plaisance et la pêche). Les activités de contact primaire et secondaire comportent des degrés d'exposition différents. Selon la qualité de l'eau, certaines zones peuvent ne convenir qu'à des activités de contact secondaire.
