Influenza Percent Positivity in Ottawa
Weekly number of Ottawa residents tested for influenza and the percentage of residents tested with laboratory-confirmed influenza. Data are based on information from the Ontario Laboratories Information System (OLIS) extracted by Ottawa Public Health on Thursdays.

Accuracy: Points of consideration for interpretation of the data:
- Lab testing for flu is only available to hospitalized patients and, from Nov. 14th 2022 onwards, symptomatic individuals in healthcare institutions.
- Prior to the 14th of Nov. 2022, lab testing for flu was only available to hospitalized patients and up to four patients per respiratory infection outbreak in healthcare institutions.
- Not all labs report to OLIS and only patients with health card numbers are included in the OLIS dataset.
- Results for patients who placed an OLIS consent block (~50 records province-wide) are excluded.
- City assignment in OLIS is based on the patient's health card address. Patients living in long-term care homes may not have the correct address associated with their health cards; therefore, not all tests in long-term care homes may be captured.
Data fields:
- Epidemiological Week – epidemiological week number (i.e. epi week)
- Start of Week – date of the first day of a week, starting on Sundays.
- Total Tests for Ottawa Residents– total weekly number of respiratory specimens from Ottawa residents tested for influenza
- Flu Percent Positivity in Ottawa – weekly influenza percent positivity among viral respiratory specimens taken from Ottawa residents (reporting week)
- Historical Average of Flu Percent Positivity in Ottawa –weekly average influenza percent positivity in Ottawa during the previous two years.
- Order of Weeks in Respiratory Surveillance Season – order of epidemiological weeks based on the corresponding calendar date.
