Emergency Department data are reported to the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) from the National Ambulatory Care Reporting System (NACRS), which are then reported to the Ministry and accessed by public health units via IntelliHEALTH Ontario.
The following ICD codes were considered mental health and substance use health conditions:
primary diagnosis field = F06-F99, or
secondary diagnosis field = X60-X84, Y870
The following ICD codes were consisted self-harm related:

- Denominators used to calculate rates are population estimates from Statistics Canada (table 17-10-0157-01, 2025-02-19).
