Early Development Instrument
The Early Development Index (EDI) for Kingston, Frontenac, and Lennox and Addington.
The Early Development Index (EDI) is designed for use with whole populations based on geographical or administrative boundaries. It is a questionnaire completed by kindergarten teachers for each student in senior kindergarten. One of the key measures of the EDI is the percentage of children who are vulnerable, which captures those that may be struggling to meet developmental milestones but have not been formally identified. This population level data helps inform programs and policies that support healthy child development for all. For more information about the Childcare and Early Years programs, please visit the City of Kingston website.
The EDI was developed by researchers at the Offord Centre for Child Studies at McMaster University (https://efts.offordcentre.com/). Data was provided by the Ontario Ministry of Education and prepared by the City of Kingston. This dataset is designed to be interpreted at the group level only.
