Fire Management Headquarters Area

Used to identify extents of Administrative Areas for Fire Management Headquarters Areas.

A Fire Management Headquarters Area (FMHA), (previously referred to as Fire Management Area), represents an administrative area for the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources Fire Program. Fire Management Headquarters Areas are analogous to Ministry districts. In all cases the areas follow OMNR district boundaries and in most cases a FMHA will have the same extent as one Ministry district. In some cases the FMHA will encompass two OMNR districts. In all there are 18 HQ FMHAs in the province. The boundaries for these areas can be verified by AFFM, Flood and Fire Management Section. On March 15, 2005 this layer was updated to align with the NRVIS District and Provincial boundary layers.
 

Additional Time Period Information:

  • Effective April 1, 2015 as a result of transformation within the AFFES business area the Sault Ste. Marie Fire Management Headquarters office was closed and the layer has been updated to reflect this change. In January 2015 the Dryden and Fort Frances boundary was updated to match the MNR District boundary putting Upper Manitou Lake in the Fort Frances Fire Management Headquarters Area. On March 15, 2005 this layer was updated to align with the NRVIS District and Provincial boundary layers.
  • In 2005 as a result of transformation in the AFFM business area the Parry Sound Fire Management Headquarters Area was removed from the layer and divided into three pieces and amalgamated with Sudbury, North Bay and Haliburton. A portion of Owen Sound is now being managed by Haliburton The Bruce Peninsula part of Owen Sound has been removed from the coverage. The portion of Algonquin Park that was managed by Parry Sound will now be managed by Pembroke.
  • Effective April 1, 2014 as a result of transformation within the AFFES business area the Pembroke Fire Management Headquarters Office was closed and the layer has been updated to reflect these changes.
