Regional Natural Infrastructure Network (RNIN) – Patch

Major and Minor Habitat Patches for the Regional Natural Infrastructure Network (RNIN).

RNIN terrestrial patches were identified using the 2020 Sensitive Ecosystem Inventory and 2020 Land Cover Classification. Patches that were cleared or developed since 2020 as identified by member jurisdiction staff and confirmed using recent satellite imagery, were removed. Patches were classified as major and minor patches by considering patch size, wildlife refuge (habitat >100 m from urban edges), and regional connectivity values. Major habitats are patches of >10 ha that contain at least 0.25 ha of refuge area, and have regional ecosystem connectivity importance (dPC and dPCConnect) values within the top 15–20%. Minor habitat patches are 0.5-10 ha, with <0.25 ha of refuge area, and lower connectivity importance as compared to the major habitat patches.
