Electoral Area A - Debris Flow Susceptibility
Represents susceptibility modelling outputs for debris flows in Metro Vancouver Electoral Area A. Polygon values correspond to debris flow susceptibility ratings as follows: 2 = very low, 3 = low, 4 = moderate and 5 = high.
BGC Engineering Inc. (BGC) was retained by Metro Vancouver to characterize steep creek hazards in select sections of the Electoral Area A (Figure 1-1). BGC (March 30, 2022) synthesized previous geohazard studies in a spatial database (geographical information system – GIS), supplemented by terrain analyses to confirm, refine, or add to previously developed landslide, snow avalanche, riverine and coastal flooding hazard inventories. The purpose of the previous and current studies is to inform Metro Vancouver’s review process of building permit (primarily) and land development permit (secondary) applications in Electoral Area A. The work was approved by Metro Vancouver on January 19, 2023 (PO 766797) and is performed under Metro Vancouver’s Consulting and Professional Services Agreement with the limit of liability and insurance coverage outlined in Document 49096723, RFSQ No 21-364, and approved on November 16, 2021. Addendum to the contract on July 25, 2023 and September 26, 2023 were issued to cover a presentation to the committee and model updates using the newly available 2022 Lidar for the study area.
The scope of this project is to use the Tier 1 level geohazard assessment (see Section 1.2 for definition of assessment levels) prepared in the first phase of work (BGC, March 30, 2022) and develop a Tier 2 level assessment for the debris flood and debris flow steep creek geohazards identified in the project area (Figure 1-1).
