World Ocean Day 2026
Advocating strong protection for marine ecosystems
World Ocean Day is a special one for Nova Scotians, who share an appreciation for all of the play, power and economic opportunities offered by the vast Atlantic Ocean. This year’s theme focuses on marine protected areas. The best known marine biosphere reserve in Atlantic Canada is the Bay of Fundy, with its famously massive tides.
There are many issues affecting our oceans, from acidification and plastics pollution, to rising sea temperatures and noise pollution that hurts marine life. Let’s look at some of these issues, and see where people are trying to help.
Many people find environmental issues like sea level rise and declining coral reefs almost as overwhelming as the scale of the ocean itself.
