Old Growth Technical Advisory Panel (TAP) - Priority Deferral Areas - Current View
****Use this layer for the current view of the Old Growth Technical Advisory Panel (TAP) Priority Deferral Areas. It reflects updates to the original operational-scale version of the Old Growth Technical Advisory Panel (TAP) Priority Deferral Areas, which was created in 2021, with any information received and reviewed through either the BCTS or licensee field verification submission process or the Harvested Areas of BC dataset.
This dataset does not represent the supported old growth deferral areas that are currently being implemented.
Updates based on the BCTS or licensee field verification submission process will include:
- Deletion of TAP Priority Deferral Areas as received and reviewed through the licensee/BCTS field verification submission process.
- Addition of Replacement Priority Old Forest Deferral Areas that meet the priority deferral criteria.
A location may consist of more than one priority deferral type. Consult the spatial data fields ANCIENT_FOREST_IND, REMNANT_OLD_ECOSYS_IND, and PRIORITY_BIG_TREED_OG_IND to determine which Priority Old Forest Deferral Areas are designated Ancient Forest, Remnant Old Ecosystems and/or Priority Big-treed Old Growth. For shapefiles use the fields: ANCIENT, REMNANT, PR_BIG.

It reflects harvest change detection as of Dec 31, 2024, and RESULTS submissions as of April 30, 2025. August 17, 2022 - TFL 38, TFL 41 and TFL 45 Old Growth Technical Advisory Panel (TAP) - Priority Deferral Areas have been added into the dataset.
