The VRI age class was refined based on known non-forested areas and harvest-related data, and that 60% of the area needed to be >80 yrs to be suitable for forage and >70% needed to be >80yrs AND needed to overlap forage to be suitable for nesting. Used focal statistics on 1ha areas, which were then rolled up into 100ha groups. Where the age class breakdown within these 100ha areas indicated that >70% of the area was forested stands > 80yrs old, and the area also overlapped with suitable goshawk forage area then it was considered suitable for goshawk nesting. |
