Invasive Alien Plant Chemical Treatment Area
Polygon geometry for a chemical treatment area. An application of a herbicide. Various herbicides are used for spot treatments of weeds in British Columbia. The herbicide selected should depend on the target weed species and environmental factors. Application rate will be dictated by the size and accessibility of the infestation, its proximity to wells and other water, and the potential impacts of the application on non-target vegetation. Some herbicides have residual effects and persist in the soil in an active state for some time after application. Other herbicides become inactive once they contact soil. The residual activity of a herbicide varies with rate of application, soil properties, and climate, and its impact on non-target vegetation should be carefully considered.
