Open Data refers to data that is made available online to be used, reused, and redistributed by anyone, anytime or anywhere. Offering public open data has become a best practice across the municipal government sector. Providing self-service access to City data will enhance customer service. Sharing select City data encourages innovation and economic development by making it available at no cost to the public, which in turn can be used by businesses to support their operations. Furthermore, an effective open data program improves the flow of information and increases transparency in decision-making. The Open Government Licence – Coquitlam is based on version 2.0 of the Open Government License – British Columbia, which was developed through public consultation and collaborative efforts by the provincial and federal government. The only change to the licence is references to the Province of British Columbia are replaced with the City of Coquitlam.
