KFLA Children and Youth Community Profiles

The KFLA Children and Youth Community Profiles presents population-level data that highlights key factors influencing the health and development of children and youth across 14 distinct planning areas. This report focuses on the social determinants of health and early childhood development - factors that research has consistently shown to be strong predictors of future outcomes in health, education, and social well-being.

This report has been part of a larger collaborative project between many community organizations that came together through the United Way Community Profiles working group as an ongoing effort to provide a snapshot of children and youth in the community. This report, which is part of a series, has been developed as an interactive  Storymap that will be updated as new data becomes available.  The KFLA Community Profile report has evolved over time and every attempt has been made to ensure accuracy in the publication.  

There are various data sources contained in this Storymap.  EDI data was developed by researchers at the Offord Centre for Child Studies at McMaster University, distributed by Ontario Ministry of Education and prepared by the City of Kingston. This dataset is designed to be interpreted at the group level only.  The 2021 Census of population data was distributed through the Community Data Program from Statistics Canada.  Population Health data was organized through the South East Health Unit and Public Health Ontario.

Kingston Frontenac Lennox & Addington is situated on the traditional territories of the Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee. We recognize the long and distinguished history of the Peoples of this region that predates the establishment of European colonies. We also recognize the significance of this land for Indigenous peoples who have lived, and continue to live, on this land. Together we honour all First Nations, Metis, Inuit and Peoples of Indigenous ancestry and their valuable past and present contributions to this region.

This report is a collaborative project between many community organizations that came together through the United Way Community Profiles working group and is an ongoing effort to provide a snapshot of children and youth in the community.
