The Urban Containment Boundary is a stable, long-term, regionally defined area for urban development. The Urban Containment Boundary ​limits urban sprawl and supports the efficient and cost-effective provision of infrastructure, including water, sewerage, and transit, and services and amenities, including schools, hospitals, community centres, and child care. This boundary helps protect regionally important lands such as Conservation and Recreation, Agricultural, and Rural lands, while helping reduce greenhouse gas emissions through trip reduction and avoidance.
