Forest Harvesting Restrictions (generalized)
Spatial representation of various land designations that stipulate, to varying degrees, limits on forest harvesting activity. These land designations include, for example, parks, ecological reserves, conservancies, ungulate winter ranges, wildlife management areas, old growth management areas, visual quality objective areas.
This spatial representation should be used only for strategic-level analysis and may not represent the most up-to-date or all land designations that have provisions that limit forest harvesting activity. The areas captured in this layer are not the authoritative legal representation of the land designations.
The 'Ranking of Forest Harvesting Restrictions' resource describes the various land designations and how they are ranked. The ranking influences which land designation will take precedence when multiple land designations spatially overlap. This is one reason why Generalized Forest Harvesting Restrictions spatial data is not the authoritative legal representation of the land designations -because parts of lower ranked land designations may be missing if they are overlapped by higher ranked land designations.
For example, an "Old Growth Management Area (OGMA): Legal" has a higher rank than a "Ungulate Winter Range: Conditional harvest". In cases where an "Old Growth Management Area (OGMA): Legal" spatially overlaps an "Ungulate Winter Range: Conditional harvest", only the "Old Growth Management Area (OGMA): Legal" is portrayed in the Generalized Forest Harvesting Restrictions spatial data within this spatial overlap area.
The 'Ranking of Forest Harvesting Restrictions' resource also indicates the harvest restriction category for each of the various land designations included in the Generalized Forest Harvesting Restrictions spatial data.
