Cariboo Consolidated Roads
This dataset contains roads in the Cariboo Natural Resource Region that have undergone an ortho-verification process. This process entailed a manual review of every road segment against high resolution satellite imagery to determine a) if the road exists or not and b) if the road linework is in the correct location. Road locations were corrected as required. Roads that were visible on the satellite imagery but missing from the road dataset were digitized (added in) and roads that were not visible on the satellite imagery were flagged as not existing and removed from this published dataset. Additionally, if an assessor was unable to determine whether a road existed or not based on the satellite imagery the road was flagged for a future field-based assessment. As of April 2025 this field-based assessment is not complete.
A field called [ROAD_TENURE_TYPE] identifies the administrative responsibility for each road, and was filled out based on several publicly available road datasets. Where there is a discrepancy between the information in this dataset and the source dataset(s), the source dataset(s) should be considered the authoritative source.

Roads that did not fall into one of the above categories and were not on private land were assigned a “non-status” classification (“No tenure data exists for this road”). Roads that were identified as having more than one administrative responsibility were assigned a classification of “Tenure status of this road is unknown”.

The original linework for this road dataset was taken from the Digital Road Atlas (https://catalogue.data.gov.bc.ca/dataset/digital-road-atlas-dra-demographic-partially-attributed-roads) in 2020. Ortho-verification work was completed between 2020-2025. From 2025 onwards this dataset will be undergoing regular maintenance to incorporate updated information, including newly built roads and roads that have had changes in access levels due to access management projects. |
