Ottawa and Peterborough Digital Soil Maps

These digital soil maps predict soil property variation at a 10 x 10 metre resolution throughout the area of interest. Soil predictions are based on statistical models that link soil and environmental data and use this relationship to infer how soil varies throughout a landscape. Companion “90% prediction interval” maps can be used to quantify uncertainty in soil map predictions. Left-click on the Ottawa/Peterborough county shape (on map viewer) or scroll to the data download links below (on about page) to download the soil map GeoTIFF files.



 

Description

Digital soil mapping (DSM) is a modern approach to soil mapping that combines geo-referenced soil observations with geo-referenced environmental layers to mathematical model soil variation across a landscape as a function of environmental conditions. These Ottawa and Peterborough digital soil maps describe soil property variation in the Ottawa/Peterborough regions via a collection of raster datasets. For information on how these maps were generated, please see the “DSM Data Description” document below


 

The Ottawa and Peterborough DSM layers are available as downloadable GeoTIFF files by following the links in the DSM Raster Directory or by clicking the links to the individual raster packages below. GeoTIFF files require spatial software to view correctly, such as ArcGIS or QGIS.


 

These layers can also be visualized online and analyzed via the Ottawa ArcGIS REST Services or Peterborough ArcGIS REST Services (and then click on your respective soil property for the direct rest service link) or by visiting the Ottawa Experience Viewer or the Peterborough Experience Viewer.
