Homelessness - By Name List

Working collaboratively, the City of Kingston along with community partners support the collection of real-time data through the “By-Name-List” (BNL) program. The By-Name List dataset provides a monthly update of all known individuals experiencing homelessness in the Kingston community. The data includes a robust set of data points that support coordinated access and prioritization at a household level and an understanding of homeless inflow and outflow at a system level. This real-time actionable data supports triage to services, system performance evaluation and advocacy for the policies and resources necessary to end homelessness.

The realities that surround each individual situation are unique and there are many reasons why a person may be experiencing homelessness. These may include barriers created through systems intended to provide support, transitions between systems or programs, and the overwhelming nature of navigating different systems in order to secure everyday basic needs. The By-Name List was created through Built for Zero Canada (https://bfzcanada.ca/by-name-lists/) and is powered by the Canadian Alliance to End Homelessness (CAEH).  The By-Name List is a collaborative effort through various local agencies to use real-time data to reduce and prevent homelessness to provide streamlines access to available support.  Although data is collected in real-time this data set provides an aggregated monthly update.
