Forest Resources Inventory
Ontario Forest Resources Inventory Find and access provincial forest resources inventory and related data. Program overview The forest resources inventory (FRI) provides information about forests and trees, including species distribution, stand composition, and tree age. This information is used to support resource management and land use decisions and to meet provincial, federal, and international reporting requirements. Forest resources inventory is developed in advance of the ten-year forest management planning cycle (previously a 20-year cycle). As forest management planning information needs change and technology advances, Ontario’s FRI continues to evolve. Current FRI, referred to as T1 (Term 1, 2008–2017), is digital imagery based and available for each forest management unit across the province. Lidar-enhanced FRI, referred to as T2 (Term 2, 2018–2027), is in development, with four pilot test areas completed but not yet widely available (coming soon). Lidar data Lidar data is available for much of the managed forest area, with more areas added after it is flown each year. The map reflects areas with lidar data available for download.
