ECWP BramptonEsker
Polygon of the Brampton Esker in the Etobicoke Creek watershed. The Etobicoke Creek watershed is home to the only esker in TRCA's jurisdiction. An esker is a long, winding ridge of sand and gravel deposited by glacial meltwaters, which flowed through crevasses and channels within or beneath an ice sheet. The Brampton Esker's northern end is located just to the north of Mayfield Road and runs south for approximately eight kilometers to Queen Street. It is around 1.8 km wide with its eastern edge following Highway 410. The sands and gravels of the Brampton Esker hold and purify water as it percolates downward, making the esker an important groundwater resource and the source of Spring Creek, a tributary of Etobicoke Creek.
