This point layer shows the locations of places of interest to Parks Canada, visitors, employees, or local residents. These are points that are not already mapped as Parks Canada facilities of components of facilties. It will be used to add symbols to maps for visitors, planning purposes, or search and rescue (e.g. understanding the intended destination of a lost person). CanVec points of interest layers will be used in addition to this layer. The CanVec points will indicate points of interest that lie outside of the CARTO_Cache_Res_5k polygons while this layer will show points of interest that lie WITHIN the CARTO_Cache... polygons. (The CARTO_Cache polygons indicate areas where the mapping system will go into greater detail for Parks Canada business reasons). Local data stewards can import CanVec points to this layer, then edit them to augment the attributes, improve locational accuracy, remove points that are of no business value to the Parks Canada mapping system. Local data stewards will also control whether the points will be accessible by public-facing applications or data services, and the internal map cache. They will also control at which map-scales each point should appear.

Examples:

1. A visitor centre in a national park: This would not be mapped in this layer. Instead it would appear in the Facilties_Installations layers

2. A visitor centre in a nearby provincial park (that is included in the CARTO_Cache...areas): This would appear in this layer.

3. A lookout within a national park that is not already described as a Facility or Facility Component: This would appear in this layer.

4. An abandoned gold mine outside of the Park that is popular with local residents: This would appear in the layer provided it falls within the CARTO_Cache... area. The Supress_Public attribute may be turned on so that the point is not shared with the public.

Cette couche de points indique l’emplacement des lieux d’intérêt à Parcs Canada, les visiteurs, les employés, ou les résidents locaux. Ce sont des points qui ne sont pas déjà cartographiés comme des installations ou des composantes d’installations de Parcs Canada. Elle sera utilisée pour ajouter des symboles des cartes pour les visiteurs, des fins de planification, ou de recherche et sauvetage (par exemple, la compréhension de la destination d’une personne perdue).
